March vol. 1 + 2 (4 points)

March was a very good retelling of the civil rights movement though John Lewis’s perspective and actions. The story goes through Lewis’s life and what got him into ministry and the civil rights movement. There was no need to dramatize the characters or stories to enhance the characters or story. No need to have the black people need to look one way and the whites look another. Everyone was seen as a person which is a refreshing story to read. While having the stereotypes of any race can be funny but after a while it's just not funny and it's just upsetting. Seeing black americans as just normal people fighting to be seen as normal like we do now, is really awesome to read. Of course I already knew this story backwards and forwards so the story wasn't new for me. I already understand how devastating and unfair it was to be in this time period and be a “negro.” I wish more people during the whole BLM movement would look back at this and try to emulate what John Lewis, MLK and

Mauz comic (6 points)

I've read this comic a long time ago and barely remembered much about the story. I remembered that the jews were mice and the nazi party are cats. I loved how it made it easy to understand the fight between the jews and nazi party. Since the characters are animals it made it slightly easier to digest the heavy topic of the hollocost. Even though the characters are portrayed as animals it never lessens the impact of the situation they are in. it also doesn't make them seem less human than any other animal around them. The story focuses on the son Spiegelman retelling his father's past in the areas the nazi party took over in World War II. While the fathers experience being a jew in nazi terrioty sometimes more personal stories of the father that isn't related to his experience slips though as well. For example the father didn't want to talk about his previous relationship before his wife, Anja. Lucia, the previous relationship, didn't end well and the father

Five Underground Comics (3 points)

I've read an assortment of comics within the categories given, starting with Abortion Eve. while just looking at the titles of the comics this one really stood out to me since the topic of abortion hasnt stopped being contrversial. Talking strictly from an art view, this was the worst looking one out of the five i've read. The framing or the inking wasn't interesting and looked so off putting to me. Especially when someone would look up. Sometimes the text boxes were hard to read since the text would be front in center instead of the characters. The characters felt like they were thought about last compared to the story. While the art looked bad the story was quite informative. It was straight to the point and told facts in a way that didn't feel like a textbook. This one was the most down to earth and interesting to read about. I wish we could have read this comic when talking about sex ed in school. The characters, even drawn poorly, could still be related since

Contract with God and Blankets (4 Points)

I love how A Life Force by Will Eisner is a really cool story about the great depression. I love the snippets of news stories that compliment the story. It's really cool to see what was happening during that time period and how certain people would react to the news within their daily lives. I also love the ethinc dynamic of certain characters. It's really interesting to see little hints here and there of the racial/ethnic tensions within the community. Most times when times are hard within America or sometimes other countries the scapegoat used to place blame is normally placed on a different ethnic/racial group. This normally only happens when a person is deeply in trouble and has little to no control over what they can do about it. This still happens to this day and it's still really interesting to see how back in the day they would blame them for issues they could have most likely prevented. Within the great depression time period lots of issues that were happeni

Seduction of the Innocent (2 points)

Censorship of new fads has unfortunately plagued every new medium that kids are stereotyped to use. Just like how video games or adult cartoons get blamed for the issues with children, comics got the same treatment. Since the “adults” are just too lazy or hard fast in their views to actually read a mature comic they think that the comic and not their bad parenting is the reason why their kid can turn bad. The comics used by Dr. Frederic Wethem to show the need of banning adult topics within a medium had little to no damaging ideals. It's confusing to me as to why an adult can look at a movie or a medium they consume but the moment they see some drawings on a paper talking about the same topic they freak out? The same arguments made by Dr. Frederic Wethem are just about the same argument as to why video games are promoting violence. I truly don't understand why people want to shave blame onto things that clearly aren't affecting a child. People really forget how they were as
